What are broadband and TV exit fees?

In short: Exit fees — early termination charges — apply if you leave a broadband or TV bundle before the minimum contract ends, often paying remaining months' fees or a calculated penalty per Ofcom fairness rules. Some providers reduce fees if you move to an address they cannot serve or downgrade speed with consent.

Fees vary: remaining subscription totalling £200–£400 on 18-month contracts is common if you cancel mid-term without cause.

Ofcom banned rolling contracts without end dates on broadband for new sales — minimum terms must be clear at sale.

Moving home may allow contract transfer without penalty — if new flat lacks same technology, providers sometimes waive fees under network unavailable policies.

Record verbal promises to waive fees in writing — chat logs and email confirmations support complaints to ADR schemes if charged unfairly. See broadband TV bundles guide.
