HICBC (High Income Child Benefit Charge)

Definition: A tax charge that claws back Child Benefit when one partner's adjusted net income exceeds £60,000, with full clawback at £80,000.
Thresholds rose from £50,000–£60,000 to £60,000–£80,000 on 6 April 2024. The charge is paid by the higher earner through Self Assessment. You can still claim Child Benefit and opt out of payments to protect NI credits.
